Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande, 1895)
This species is originated from western part of USA but currently widespread in the world, and is intercepted on the many kinds of plants such as cut-flowers and vegetables imported from the many countries by Japanese plant quarantine. In Japan, it was collected from Saitama and Chiba at first time in 1990 and today it is distributed throughout Japan except Okinawa. In female, body colour is various, pale to dark, but if pale dark markings are usually present on abdominal tergites, whereas male is uniformly pale. This species is polyphagous but seems to be usual in the artificial environment such as crop field and flower bed rather than natural vegetation. The dark individuals of female are very similar to F. panemensis Hood which is distributed in Colombia and Ecuador. However, it can be distinguished from the latter species by hind coxae without microtrichia on upper surfaces (vs. with several microtrichia in the latter species).
